How to Start Working on Your Dream Hustle: The 7 Steps to Success
Sometimes the hardest part is getting started. Our dream feels so out of reach that it is easier to just give up.
But by giving up, we are not fulfilling our life to its greatest potential. Dream big and don't let your doubt hold you back. If we don't take risks we will never know what could have been, so don't let your dreams just be dreams!
Keep your focus on progress, not perfection. It always takes time and patience to learn and grow, particularly when you're first getting started with something brand new.
We know the hardest thing is knowing how to start. It can be overwhelming and confusing. So we thought we'd give you a helping hand - here's the 7 steps to help you get going with your hustle!
Step 1: What's your vision?
Your vision statement defines who you are and what you do. This helps you to keep focused on the end game and inspired to achieve it. Without this, it is common to lack motivation and become lost and easily distracted from what you are trying to achieve.
What are you trying to create? Why? And what inspires you to do what you do?
It can be difficult to define your vision at your first attempt, so don't get too caught up with it, but do make sure you spend the time to at least have a think about it. It's natural for it to evolve over time.

Step 2: Who's your target market?
Getting inside the mind of the person purchasing your product or service is key to the success of your business. So that means understanding stuff like what their needs and wants are, which in turn helps you better brand market what you're selling.
Targeting a small, particular group of people is much more effective than trying to please everyone. This is why we highly recommend that you pick a "niche" of people that you target first - this helps you book ideal clients who are like-minded and love your work.
Your target market could be someone who loves boho and indie decor, or someone who has more of a relaxed, beachy style. The possibilities are endless, so take the time to delve deep and think about who you will be targeting.
Step 3: Have you got a business plan?
A business plan is like a map - it helps steer you in the right direction, sets you goals so you know if you're making progress and how well you are doing.
You don't need a massive 30 page essay to get going. But you do need to spend time trying to define where you want to be in the next few weeks and months, at the very least.
Having a plan helps you stay focused, keeping you motivated by providing a sense of direction. Without it, it's easy to get side-tracked from distractions and procrastination.

Step 4: Why is branding so important?
Branding is so much more than just a logo. It tells a story about who you are, what you do and why you do it. It defines what your business does differently and what makes you stand out from the crowd.
Having a great brand means that your fans and customers will associate with you positively, and also be able to instantly pick out your stuff, compared to other brands.
Who and what inspires you? How would you define your brand? How does your brand differ from someone else's?
Step 5: Is it worth investing time into social media?
How much time would you say you spend on social media per day? 1 hour? Maybe 3 hours? It has become the normality to spend a lot of time scrolling through our Facebook and Instagram feeds.
If so many people are spending time on here, wouldn't it be the perfect way to capture their attention with brands and ideas that are catered to them specifically?
YES! It's seriously the most effective and easy way to get your name out there, and begin building a brand and following from the ground up. You just need to know how to use it to its potential.
Step 6: But how do I have time to work on all this?
Has this been on your to do list for more than six months, a year, even several years?!
Time waits for no one! To make progress, you have to do the work, and to do that, you need to make the time to do it. Have a think about how much time you have outside of of your day job, and what do you do with it now? Perhaps you watch Netflix? Have brunch or dinner with friends? Could you use some of that time instead to hustle on your new business? You'd be surprised! ;)
That's not to say that you shouldn't be doing anything fun or social. Be sure to reward yourself when you hit certain milestones, celebrate those small wins and exercise regularly to keep healthy! Maintaining a healthy work/life balance is essential to becoming more productive and efficient with your time.

Step 7: How do I balance learning the skills to create my new business, whilst working a day job?
There's a lot of schools of thoughts around going all in with your new venture, or balancing the two. We know that realistically, many of us just can't jump ship and go 100% into our business. We've got bills, a mortgage, kids, rent... which can make nearly impossible to quit your day job.
So how do you start building up the skills that you need to make progress on your new business? Whilst you can study part-time at institutions, there's now countless resources available online, that enables you to balance learning things into your schedule.
Whether it be Youtube or online courses (like our one!), you can now watch and study in your own time, and customise your learning based on what you really need.
